Tallinn/Rakvere

Our first stop on the cruise was in Tallinn, Estonia. I had never been to Estonia, and knew hardly anything about the country so I was super exited to go. We went on a tour of a medieval castle in the town of Rakvere, and later we went back to Tallinn to tour the Old Town.

A view over Tallinn
First we had to ride a tour bus to get to Rakvere. Our tour guide gave us the rundown on Estonian culture and history, which I found super interesting. We also got to see quite a bit of wildlife outside the bus window, we saw storks, eagles, and deer. We also passed by some ancient Estonian graves from the Bronze Age.

At the castle, we had a short tour of the important areas and short history lesson. Our tour guide then accompanied us to the torture chamber, were we learned what happened when "questionings" took place. Then the bravest of us were led through a passage that they called "hell". In short it was like one of those haunted houses in amusement parks, but cold, dark, and super cramped, which is the recipe of horror in my eyes. All I can say is that Disneyland should take notice.

After surviving the journey through hell we we´re allowed to explore the castle.

Quite majestic if you ask me

A goat with humongous horns

The view of the main yard.

This was the highest we were able to get. Look how blue the sky is!

Getting up to the viewpoint was okay, but going down was another story. Look how steep!

There a lot of different medieval style activities in the main yard. As soon as I saw the archers I knew my day was made.

I know my elbow is totally spastic. I got some pretty good marks though.

After lunch some of the adults engaged in a vodka tasting.

Geese!

This is me after I successfully pet a sheep. It was so soft.

I also witnessed my first joust. The guy that is being knocked down was made of straw, but it still counts.

Before leaving we said goodbye to our goat friend. I would´ve liked to have pet this guy, but at the same time I´m not a fan of getting impaled. Better safe than sorry, y´know?

After we were finished at the castle, we rode the bus back to Tallinn. There we got to tour the Old Town and visit some churches. Tallinn was such a charming city, too bad we didn´t have much time to explore it. Luckily I got some nice pictures of what we did see.

Touring.

I swear they look like gingerbread houses.

On this vacation I realized I´m a huge fan of onion dome churches.

I feel like this post is the longest ever. I had so many pictures I wanted to share! Our day in Tallinn was really wonderful. Next up; St. Petersburg!
